For our second day of school, we went on a field trip to the Fort Worth Zoo! The zoo is one of my favorite places and we had a membership several years ago when A was much younger. The freedom of just waking up in the morning and deciding, “This looks like a good day to go to the zoo!” is no longer available in this Covid-19 world, so our trip yesterday had to be scheduled a few days ahead, and masks were, of course, required on property, but it was a beautiful and fun day filled mostly with birds!

We naturally made two visits to the Aviary where A was allowed to feed a multitude of parakeets and cockatoos. One thing you can definitely say about my daughter, when she gets interested in something, she jumps in with both feet and completely submerges herself in every aspect of that subject. Right now, that subject is birds. The joy these feathered creatures bring her right now is amazing to watch. From the tiniest hummingbird to the huge, scary (in my opinion) ostrich, she is obsessed!
We did see other animals, of course. Fort Worth Zoo is one of the top zoos in the US and has a great variety of animals. Some of our favorites are the Bonobos and Gorillas. Their human-like behavior and expressions are always so incredibly humbling.

You can ask any of my past Pre-K students what my favorite animal is, though, and they will all (if they remember me, that is), tell you that I love tigers! If A could stay all day in the Aviary, I could spend all day hanging out at the tiger enclosure. It is well known that I am forbidden from ever traveling to any areas in the world where tigers live in the wild. I would likely try to pet the giant kitties and come home missing a limb or two! That being said, I obviously had to take photos of the amazing creature!

Now that we once again have a membership, we will probably make plans to visit again very soon! It was a fun and educational day! Day two, in the books!
